Sassen started as conversation many years ago between Omolara Obanishola and a colleague, both of whom had a shared love of subcultures, youth movements, street style, fashion theory, concepts and culture. They hit a pause in conversation as they watched a group of guys at a skate park and asked…where are all the girls? Where are the collective spaces that girls congregate? Where are the girl crews? What are the platforms they frequently use and where are their spaces online? Where do we see women outside of advertising?
“Sassen is a space in which to show a diverse representation of the coolest women we come across; their fashion, style and attitude, globally.
Often it Is men photographing women. With every picture captured we like to think we’ve made a bond with someone who would otherwise be a stranger. From our interactions we have learnt, laughed, received words of wisdom and gained recommendations on everything from new brands, places to go, music to listen to, films to watch and so much more. Photographing other women has taught us the need and importance of making interactions, celebrating others and sharing stories.”
